Numbering of clauses when you add or re-order clauses

This page applies to: Conga Contracts for Salesforce

What happens to the numbering of clauses if you add or re-order a clause in-between other clauses?

For example, a clause bundle references clauses 1, 1.1, 2 and 3. If you add a new clause in-between 1 and 1.1, the numbering of the clauses updates automatically.

       If you add a clause, remove the numbers from the Clause text. Then use a dynamic auto-numbering in Microsoft Word so that the numbering is handled by Word during the Composer merge function. The merge field for the clause text is placed next to an auto-number field.

For example with payment clauses:

{ AUTONUM }  {{ TableStart:PayClauses }} {{ Clause_Text }}

{{ TableEnd:PayClauses }}

The { AUTONUM } field follows the merge fields and Microsoft Word ensures the numbering is sequential.

You might need to add a classification field in the Clause record so that you can query Parent clauses and Sub-clauses separately. Separate queries allows you to position the merge fields accurately on the template.
